The All Star Game approaches and we rank the Mariners pitchers who should be on the AL roster.   Chris Crawford, My Oh Why joins Ian to break down the decisions the Mariners made in last night's game. How do you fix a player's swing, when it looks like a timing issue? This applies to Julio Rodriguez, and Chris gives his thoughts on the decision to move him down in the lineup last night. In a trade situation, which Seattle players would he see as movable?   Chris remains with us to discuss what we should expect from the Mariners at the trade deadline. Is anyone in their system untouchable?   We revisit a touching conversation with Brandon Huffman who discusses the foundation he founded in honor of his daughter, as well as the latest in football recruiting.   Chris Crawford made some great points regarding potential Mariners moves, and we discuss some trade proposals floating around.   The Daily Power Play!   Jessica Campbell, Kraken Assistant Coach joins Ian to talk about joining the NHL ranks as the first full-time assistant coach in the league's history. She discusses her path to where she is now, as well as how she and Dan Bylsma came to work together. Jessica explains what we'll see on the ice this year, as well as the significance of her hire.

    2 JUL 2024 · Ron Francis, Kraken GM sits down with Ian as we look over the team's rookie camp on the ice from the Kraken Ice Plex. He discusses the draft picks as well as the team's decision to sign Brandon Montour and Chandler Stephenson. In addition, Ron gives us some insight on what might happen with the current roster, considering salary cap implications.   BREAKING: The Kraken have made a move and traded Brian Dumoulin to Anaheim for a 2026 draft pick. The US Men's National Team was disappointing last night and it brings us to a conversation about youth sports and the future we're looking at right now.   The Mariners have a big week ahead of them - is going 3-3 enough for fans to be satisfied over the next few series?   Joe Sheehan joins Ian to discuss the latest downturn the Mariners have seen and the buzzsaw they're facing as Baltimore comes to town. He sees them as the best team in the American League right now. He also gives his thoughts on Julio Rodriguez's slow start this season. The Mariners have exceeded expectations this season so far, and Joe gives us some perspective on what they actually are.   What happened to the US Men's National Team last night?   The Daily Power Play! Curtis Crabtree, FOX 13 joins us to give observations from KCI today as we get a first-time glimpse of the new draft picks and younger players on the ice. Are the Kraken done making moves?   Tim Booth, AP Sports joins Ian to talk about the latest in the NBA and what recent events might impact the return of the Sonics. Tim and Ian both reflect on the team's departure and retell their own experiences when it happened. Where are we right now when it comes to the league coming back to Seattle?

    1 JUL 2024 · Ian is thrilled with the Kraken's first two draft picks, and we review what they've done in free agency today. We discuss the Mariners' fourth series loss in a row and how much criticism Julio Rodriguez actually deserves right now. We might be worrying right now, but we'd all take 3.5 games atop the AL West on July 1st.   Ian foresees more Kraken moves after the two free agent signings today.    The Mayor of Maple Valley was a major success this year and Ian shares his appreciation.  MollyWhop Monday! Chris Crawford and Nathan Bishop join Ian to discuss the Mariners 4th series loss in a row, the Astros gaining steam in the AL West and just how worried we are right now, as the formerly 10-game lead continues to dwindle.   Chris and Nathan remain to take a look at the rest of the season and give a realistic look at Julio Rodriguez and where he stands right now.   The Daily Power Play!   The Mariners have the day off, so we are scoreboard watching, with the Astros playing in Canada right now. Big thanks to everyone who came out to the Mayor of Maple Valley golf tournament on Friday.    We hear from Kraken GM, Ron Francis as he discusses the team's moves in free agency today.

  • Furness Show 6-27: Brandon Huffman, Corbin Smith and Anne McCoy

    27 JUN 2024 · The Mariners have the day off and a much-needed homestand. Plus, it's EQC Note Thursday! Brandon Huffman, 247 Sports joins Ian to talk about the loss of his daughter Avery to DIPG. The community continues to rally around his family. He also gives us the latest look on local recruiting and assesses the difference on what's happening with the Cougs versus the Huskies. He tips his hat to Jake Dickert and the job he's done. Mayor of Maple Valley update and even though the Mariners are off tonight, there is some scoreboard watching to do. Corbin Smith, Locked on Seahawks joins Ian to discuss what the Ryan Grubb offense looks like with the Seahawks. He's extremely encouraged by what he's seen in the off-season from Abe Lucas and changed his mind as to whether or not he'd be ready for preseason. BOLD PREDICTION: Corbin says Jaxon Smith Njigba will have the most receptions for Seattle this year. Ian is intrigued by Corbin's assessment of where JSN should be in receptions this year. Certain guys have the ability to be gamechangers this year. Plus a quick update on the NBA Draft. Sports are becoming less accessible by the day when it comes to TV, and now we have another potential roadblock. We also listen to Jordan Morris, who explained why he'd so passionate about his foundation. Ian discusses why it's so important to him, personally.Anne McCoy, Washington State Athletic Director joins Ian to talk about that interim tag being removed and officially be named WSU's new AD. She discusses what the restructure looks like in administration and Washington State and how great the Cougar spirit has been through all of the changes.

We remember Tyler Hilinski, as we discuss the efforts his parents continue to make following his death.The Mariners pulled one out today and we discuss the concerns that exist. How do you feel about the team right now after this road trip? Ian shares his thoughts.The Kraken are doing something special this season which makes tickets much more accessible than they were in the past. Mark and Kym Hilinski join Ian to talk about their efforts to promote mental health for college athletes, in the tragic wake of losing their son, Tyler six years ago. They open the door for people to talk about their struggles. Mark and Kym continue to discuss how much more pressure there is on young athletes in the new era of NIL and the transfer portal. The Daily Power Play! Alison Lukan joins Ian to discuss the latest changes to Kraken ticketing and how the team has made things more accessible for this upcoming season. Chris Crawford, My Oh Why joins Ian to breakdown the Mariners road trip, tell us just how concerned we should be and where those concerns lie. How confident are we right now in the AL West standings?

    25 JUN 2024 · How big is the concern for Bryan Woo right now? We're happy it's not an arm injury and we'll hopefully learn more later. Mariners were disappointing last night and the Astros gained some ground. Ian shares his dentist experience this morning. JJ Reddick had some bleepable things to say in his press conference as the new head coach of the Lakers and Ian finds it extremely unlikeable.  We've got some Mariners news, as the team just traded Dallas Keuchel to the Brewers for cash. We ponder why. Joe Sheehan, The Joe Sheehan Newsletter joins Ian for his weekly visit to break down the AL West and just how worried we might have to be about where the Mariners stand right now, especially with the Astros gaining steam. He gives us his take on the Dallas Keuchel trade as well. Joe also provides some analysis on the Mariners pitching staff, in addition to the offense. We have breaking news as Anne McCoy is officially named the new Athletic Director at Washington State. Ian thinks this is a great idea. The Oregon Ducks have a newly designed basketball court, but the images of the birds they have on it aren't ducks. The Seahawks released their open training camp schedule and we wonder if people are still as interested in attending like they used to be. It'll be interesting to see how many show up this year. Plus, we have The Dumbest Thing You'll Hear Today!

  • Furness Show 6-24: Mariners weekend, Mollywhop Monday and Everett Fitzhugh

    24 JUN 2024 · We saw some great games across all local sports this weekend, as the Storm and Sounders took some unexpected wins. The Mariners still remain in command of the AL West, but there are reasons for concern. The road losses are among the highest.  There's a historic game tonight in the NHL and we haven't seen a ton of teams trail three games to none in any seven-game series. What's your favorite all or nothing game you've attended or seen, and which one made you the most nervous? We take some feedback from listeners on their most nervous sports moments. Mollywhop Monday! Chris Crawford and Nathan Bishop join the show to give an honest assessment of the team after a disappointing weekend against a bad team. Despite a bad week, there is reason for positivity with this team. Mollywhop continues to assess how the rest of the AL West looks, as we saw Houston and Texas wake up over the weekend. Everett Fitzhugh, Voice of the Kraken gives us an inside look at the Calder Cup as he's on the road for Coachella Valley.

    21 JUN 2024 · It's a shame the Mariners are on the road during this beautiful week! However, we have plenty of entertainment in the form of hockey. How will the Sonics look when they come back? Has the NBA taken a step back when it comes to the competitive aspect? Last night we heard from Reggie Jackson regarding the time he spent in Major League Baseball, and the unfortunate circumstances he faced. There are certain people that deserve tribute that we might not recognize as much as we should. Ian is reminded of Pete Carroll while we discuss Charlie Finley and what he did for Reggie Jackson during his time. Carroll cared more about his players than a game sometimes, and he did it well. Dwight Jaynes, Portland Sports Legend joins Ian for Friends with Furness and discusses his memories of Willie Mays, as well as how his play stacks up against today's talent. Could Portland see MLB come to town? Plus, what makes an NBA team great, as it seems things have changed over time. Offense is down across baseball, so do the Mariners really need to add a bat? It's not as easy as it would seem. What do you need the Mariners to do to be satisfied with their series in Miami? Jayson Stark, The Athletic joins us to talk about Willie Mays and the legacy he leaves behind. Jayson took a deep look into the lack of offense in baseball this season, which allows us some insight on the Mariners' situation right now.

We get to know him a little better.   Corbin Smith, Locked on Seahawks joins us to give some insight on the Seahawks new offensive and defensive schemes this year. We take a deep dive into the Mike Macdonald defense and how the personnel fits what he's trying to do. Plus, who might surprise us?   The Mariners fell to the Guardians today and it wasn't pretty.   The Daily Power Play!   The Mariners lost 6-3 today, dropping two of three to the Cleveland Guardians. We hear from Scott Servais following the game.

Mariners are rolling, especially when they score four or more runs. In Ian's eyes, Bryce Miller won the game in the 2nd inning. We pay tribute to Willie Mays, via Jon Miller.  Who can compare to the greatest athletes of all time? Willie Mays was bigger than life.  The Mariners continue to do everything we want them to do, and we are in unchartered territory. What's the biggest need - bullpen or offense?  Aaron Levine, FOX 13 joins Ian to discuss what Willie Mays means to multiple generations. The LPGA comes to Washington and Aaron gives us the overview of the field. Where are women's sports heading right now? Is the Caitlin Clark effect hitting other sports? Aaron tells us who has the 'it factor' on the tour. Finally, why isn't there more marketing around this major?  The Daily Power Play! All of a sudden the Stanley Cup Final looks quite interesting. Steve Kelley joins Ian in studio to talk about the iconic Willie Mays, and who he could be compared to in our time. Steve takes us on a walk through the history of some of the greatest Seattle athletes he's covered, as well as those across the country.  Steve Kelley hangs around with us to give us a little more insight into some of the greatest sports journalists we've had the pleasure of reading in the Times, including Blaine Newnham who recently passed away.
