ABOUT J. BROWN: figuratively set to the rhythmic pace of its infamous, steady-grinding automobile factories, while its streets are legendary and well-known the world over for the hyper-creative and musically fertile atmosphere that gave birth to Motown, Detroit continues to be a music capital of feel-good, contemporary music that ultimately proves timeless. The list of iconic names that have catapulted and captivated from the Motor City seems infinite…more than a few simply known by one name. Typifying the old saying “something in the water,” singer/songwriter J. BROWN – though generationally removed from the Gordy company’s then revolutionary melding of contemporary R&B and pop – has paid his dues and persevered in bringing those time proven musical values into the new music era with his recently released and, long-in-the-making solo debut EP. With music firmly in his blood and armed with tunnel-vision focus on following his passion of making music from the heart, J. BROWN delivers a dose of straight-up R&B – some with subtle pop and 90s throwback influences – to a music generation largely devoid of truly soulful and impassioned music.
Consequently, the recent breakthrough of J’s sunny-vibed, easy-bumpin’ “Sunrise Sunset” and "Moon" on Billboard’s Adult R&B chart is the culmination of years spent honing his craft and holding true to his dream of bringing back passionate music. The youngest of five children born to a preacher and musically ambitious mother, J’s life-long musical journey predictably began in the church when a mere eight-year old’s musical interests were unleashed by singing with the choir every Sunday morning. Though his personal music influences as a youngster included the likes of Usher, Jay-Z, Jimi Hendrix, Nas and Sting, it turns out the only direct Motown connection comes through his initial musical inspiration, his Mom. “She was initially signed to Motown back in the day,” J explains; “she and my aunt had a situation with Motown. Smokey Robinson actually signed them, and then my Mom got pregnant with my older brother. That pretty much finished that deal. So it all pretty much started for me with my Mom, with all of her experiences and what she did as far as pursuing her dream inspired me.” While exposed to the classical music his Mom regularly played at home, grade school found young J nurturing his acting and vocal skills in a local theater group, which afforded him the opportunity to sing the national anthem at Pistons and Lions games, as well as perform for then President Clinton multiple times. Beyond the laidback, feel-good vibes of “Sunrise Sunset, Moon and Hopelessly In Love,” music listeners are set to discover J. BROWN’s silky-smooth, old school-reminiscent vocals amidst a refreshingly clean, straight-up R&B sound with touches of pop, hip-hop and rock. “The majority of the songs definitely fall into the straight-up R&B feel,” he says of his forthcoming debut EP. “Some things have a little pop influence, but the majority of it is straight R&B with that old-school feel.
You might think of Babyface, Mint Condition, Bell Biv Devoe, New Edition, Jon B or maybe a little Jaheim when you hear it. I just hear a combination of so many different artists when I go back and listen to my music. I don’t have to use Auto-Tune on a record; I can sing on the spot without any technology just like the old cats did. She is an artist entering the music industry with a unique style, rich voice, and an unmatched vision. She describes her artistry as having two distinct perspectives. The “Lia” side of her consists of a heavy pop influence, which relies on dance, upbeat tempos, and custom-built visuals. In contrast, “Simone”, has a serious demeanor, enjoys expressing herself through R&B music, and explores dark moody themes. Her music consists of Pop, R&B, and Hip-Hop, and contains themes of self-awareness, women empowerment, and perseverance.
LiaSimone found a strong passion for the performing aspect of music when she joined the Musical Theatre program in high school. That taught her the importance of stage direction, costuming, lighting, & most importantly: putting on a full show. As a passionate musical and performing artist, LiaSimone independently released her debut EP “Mood” in the summer of 2018, learning the importance of owning and registering one’s own music. She directed and produced her first 3 music videos from her EP and began performing in multiple venues. LiaSimone is incredibly involved in her craft, from casting to costuming, and even editing.
One of her main goals as an artist is to inspire young women and let them know that they are beautiful and worthy. She aspires to teach the importance of self-worth, and feels her purpose is to connect people through music and instill confidence in those who need it. LiaSimone has had radio interviews that consist of 105.9 Kiss FM, 910 AM Superstation, and Florida’s own WMRR Radio Show. She performed in the Woodward Dream Cruise, Hair Wars, Aretha Franklin Jazz Café, Detroit Hot Radio Showcase, and more. She was also featured in Detroit’s Own, Angie Starr’s, singing competition as the spotlight artist. In addition, she was a part of 2020’s Arts, Beats & Eats — The Beats Go On, music festival. In September of 2020, she released her latest single titled “Can’t Be Beat”, and produced the accompanying music video, which was her largest independent project to date.

Dr. Shemena was born and raised in Los Angeles, California to parents that were blue-collar workers. Her parents were born in the mid-west and were part of the Great Migration of many African Americans coming to the west coast to escape racism and explore better opportunities. Trauma was interwoven into the fabric of my family history. What came out of her family history was not only trauma, but the strength to overcome obstacles and strive for something greater. Dr. Shemena says, “I owe this understanding to my parents of learning how to not just survive, but thrive through adversity. These early experiences have come to inform my therapeutic work. I take heart that life’s circumstances need not overpower you. I have worked with a broad spectrum of individuals and couples from many different cultures, lifestyles and socio-economic backgrounds and I have learned that pain does not discriminate. Many of us at some point have experienced conflict, doubt, uncertainty, loss and sadness that come with life’s struggles.”

Amani plans to start a private practice that invites all people of color to a safe space to feel seen and heard to shift the stigmas that keep our people away from the help they need and deserve.
Amani is also a millennial mom and wife that enjoys cartoons, long walks down the snack aisle and having loud Beyoncé concerts in her car.

Andre was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, left at age 11 to be raised in South East San Diego, California, other wise known as South East Daygo. Joined the U.S. Air Force at age 19 in 2003 and served until 2013 during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, during his service he was also an entrepreneur and continued this after leaving the Air Force. Using tech skills and training and inspired by one of his son's Isaiah being diagnosed with Autism he create Live 2 Learn Differently Inc to develop educational apps for children on the spectrum. Took some of those profit and purchased the Tampa Bay Fury and Sarasota Manatee Basketball teams in the American Basketball Association.
