7 SEP 2026 · It's September 1996. School just started, friends are coming over Friday night, and someone has to make the run to Palmer Video. Thirty years later, Rob and Guido pull the top 40 video rental chart from the week of September 28, 1996 and each bring five picks to battle it out for the ultimate top 10.
The rules: every pick had to appear on that week's chart, and each host had to have actually rented it back in the day, with one wish-I'd-rented exception apiece. Along the way we cover the Kurt Russell number one that neither of us ever watched, why every commercial in 1996 whispered "Mary Reilly," the Stephen King direct-to-video sequel we downloaded and never watched, Nicolas Cage's Oscar-winning detour, Robin Williams returning to the Genie, a proto-Sixth Sense from Terry Gilliam, the height of Adam Sandler mania, the Robert Rodriguez vampire movie that clearly inspired Sinners, the Bond that launched a thousand N64 deathmatches, and the anthology film Guido treasured on previously viewed VHS because Madonna plays a witch.
THE COUNTDOWN
10. Mary Reilly
9. Sometimes They Come Back Again
8. Leaving Las Vegas
7. Get Shorty
6. Aladdin and the King of Thieves
5. 12 Monkeys
4. Happy Gilmore
3. From Dusk Till Dawn
2. GoldenEye
1. Four Rooms
TIMESTAMPS
00:00 Intro and where we were in 1996
01:36 The movies we weren't allowed to watch (Scream, Beavis and Butt-Head Do America)
02:20 The rules and the number one we never rented (Executive Decision)
04:20 Mary Reilly
06:09 Sometimes They Come Back Again

25 JUN 2026 · The Sleepover Retro Countdown Show - Episode 13
Rob and Guido step outside the usual format this week for a long conversation with Ryan Verrill, one of the most trusted voices in physical media.
Ryan is the man behind:
- The Disc Connected, the collector hub turned community
- The Someone's Favorite Productions Podcast Network
- The Physical Media Advocate magazine
- Antenna Releasing, his new distribution label
He talks about reimagining how movies reach people, building third spaces for fans of the medium, and walking away from a 17-year career to give filmmakers a fairer deal.
Our countdown runs underneath the interview. The challenge: the physical media releases from the last 10 years all three would save from a burning building (after the kids and pets, for the record).
What made it out:
- 🔪 A Nightmare on Elm Street 4K UHD Steelbook Collection (Warner Bros)
- 2. ⚔️ He-Man and She-Ra: The Eternia Collection (Turbine Media)
- 3. 🧀 Mandy on VHS, Cheddar Goblin cover (Witter Entertainment)
- 4. 🕷️ The Spider Labyrinth 4K (Severin)
- 5. 🌾 All the Haunts Be Ours: A Compendium of Folk Horror (Severin)
- 6. 🌌 Cloud Atlas 4K (Shout! Factory)
- 7. 🐈⬛ Felidae 4K (Def Crocodile)
- 8. 🌲 The Blair Witch Project Limited Edition Blu-ray (Second Sight)
- 9. 📼 Scream 4 on VHS (Lionsgate)

11 JUN 2026 · Hosts Rob and Guido are on the same screen for the first time as they count down the top 10 treasures from their Long Island retro toy hunt. Vintage toys, mint-on-card action figures, rare VHS tapes, horror merchandise, and video store ephemera all fight for shelf space in this haul. The rules this week: every pick must come from one single day trip to Long Island, with stops at three retro toy stores that were all new to the hosts: Long Island Pickers in Westbury, Time Warp Toys inside Retro Relics in Lake Grove, and Lost Toys in Miller Place.
Fuel for the hunt came courtesy of The Haunted House of Hamburgers, the horror-themed diner with blacklights, animatronics, and horror movies always playing.
The picks, in no particular order:
- 📚 The Shadow and The Phantom movie novelizations (Long Island Pickers, Westbury). Matching paperback tie-ins from the '90s pulp hero revival that followed Dick Tracy, complete with glow-green fonts that make them look like one shared universe.
- 🎉 Princess of Power honeycomb centerpiece party decoration (Time Warp Toys inside Retro Relics, Lake Grove). Sealed in original packaging. She-Ra party ephemera that was designed to be used once and thrown away, which is exactly why it survives so rarely.
- 📼 Torso on VHS (Long Island Pickers). Starring Kathleen Robertson, Callum Keith Rennie, Brenda Fricker, and Victor Garber. One tape standing in for a haul of roughly 80 direct-to-video '90s thrillers, most of which never made it to streaming and qualify as semi-lost media.
- 🎸 Rock 'n Curl Jem in box (Lost Toys, Miller Place). The big-hair variant of Hasbro's Jem with the full fashion illustration poster included, plastic window intact.
- 🃏 G.I. Joe Hydro Viper backing card (Time Warp Toys). A 1988 figure grail finally completed. The loose figure came from New Jersey; the card art that started the obsession came from a bin of Joe card backs on Long Island.
- 🕯️ Scream candle holders by Fun World, 1997 (Time Warp Toys). Original packaging with red candles intact. Early horror merchandising from the company that made the Ghostface mask itself, released back when the movie studio wasn't even credited on the package.
- 🪓 The Ripper from Last Action Hero, mint on card (Lost Toys). The ax-swinging Mattel figure returns to the countdown, played on screen by the late Tom Noonan. Great figure, legendarily lazy back-of-card art.
- 👻 Spooks the Heroic Ghostling from Tonka's Supernaturals (Lost Toys). Hologram-faced figures on die-cut spooky-tree cards, no cartoon to back them up, and the start of a quest to collect the entire line.
- 📺 Double-sided cardboard video store hanging ad from Virgin Vision (Time Warp Toys). Salaam Bombay! on one side, Edge of Sanity starring Anthony Perkins on the other. An Oscar-nominated Mira Nair drama and a cocaine-powered Jekyll and Hyde riff, united only by their distributor. Found hanging from the ceiling, retrieved by machete, and soon to hang in the Sleepover Trading Co. video store.
- 🏰 Complete Masters of the Universe Fright Zone playset (Lost Toys). Trees, gate, trap floor, and monster hand puppet all intact. That leaves only Eternia between Guido and a complete vintage MOTU playset collection.

Don't Walk Off the Ride 🎢 Interview w/ Joshua Bailey, Director - Stolen Kingdom + Top 5 Disney Rides
25 MAY 2026 · The Sleepover Retro Countdown Show
Episode 111: Joshua Bailey, Director of Stolen Kingdom
Stolen Kingdom, out now from Antenna Releasing, is a documentary about the people who snuck into the backstage areas of Walt Disney World, built a black market for stolen Disney animatronics and ride vehicles, and got caught on camera doing it. Director Joshua Bailey spent five years making it. In this episode: how a generation of Disney urban explorers pioneered YouTube vlogging before anyone knew what that was, how a stolen animatronic from an abandoned attraction became the center of an unsolved crime, and what it takes to get confessed thieves to sit down for a documentary interview. Plus: interrogation footage obtained via public records request, the psychology of Disney prop collecting, and whether the whole underground scene is dead or just quiet. Joshua also counts down his five favorite Disney attractions of all time. T
opics: Walt Disney World urban exploring · Disney prop black market · stolen animatronics · theme park crime · Disney YouTube history · documentary filmmaking · VHS collecting · true crime · theme park memorabilia

14 APR 2026 · **Episode 110: Top 10 Movie Tie-In Toys**
The Sleepover Retro Countdown Show
Rob and Guido dig deep into the toy chest for Episode 110, counting down the greatest movie tie-in action figures of the '80s and '90s. These are the bubble-carded, button-activated, pants-dropping legends that lined the shelves of KB Toys and haunted the bins of every antique store since.
The rules were clear from the jump: action figures only (not licensed merchandise, not TV tie-ins), directly tied to a specific film, and released between 1980 and 1999. No modern re-releases. No retro drops. Just the shiny plastic glory you would have begged for at the register.
🎬 **The Final Countdown:**
- 🏆 The Blank (aka Breathless Mahoney) — *Dick Tracy*, Playmates, 1990
- 2. Cobra LA 3-Pack featuring Globulus — *G.I. Joe: The Movie*, Hasbro, 1987
- 3. Tall Terror Captain Hook — *Hook*, Mattel, 1991
- 4. Queen Bavmorda — *Willow*, Tonka, 1988
- 5. Lips Manlis — *Dick Tracy*, Playmates, 1990
- 6. Spin Head Beetlejuice with Creepy Cockroach — *Beetlejuice*, Kenner, 1989
- 7. Alien Queen Deluxe Xenomorph — *Aliens*, Kenner, 1992
- 8. Zed — *Police Academy*, Kenner, 1988
- 9. Bruce Wayne Batman (Dark Knight Collection) — *Batman*, Toy Biz, 1989
- 10. Bob the Goon — *Batman*, Toy Biz, 1989

24 MAR 2026 · On Episode 109 of The Sleepover Retro Countdown Show, hosts Guido and Rob roll the tape on the opening credits sequences that stuck with them, defined their movie-going memories, and in some cases, practically invented a visual language of their own.
Before they could pick, they had to set the rules: the credits have to be on screen, and the sequence has to be skippable without losing the plot — even if skipping it would be a crime. From animated prologues to miniature model towns, from Saul Bass cartoons to a single glowing pumpkin, this episode celebrates the art of the credit sequence in an era when studios actually invested in them — and mourns the streaming era that mostly killed them off. Spoiler: 1987 had a very good year.
The Top 10 Movie Opening Credits Sequences:
- Halloween (1978) — John Carpenter
- Who's That Girl? (1987) — James Foley
- Mannequin (1987) — Michael Gottlieb
- Panic Room (2002) — David Fincher
- The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) — Jim Sharman
- Beetlejuice (1988) — Tim Burton
- It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963) — Stanley Kramer
- Adventures in Babysitting (1987) — Chris Columbus
- Superman: The Movie (1978) — Richard Donner
- House of the Devil (2009) — Ti West
The list barely scratches the surface — a sequel episode is already in the works.

24 FEB 2026 · 🔪📞 TOP 10 SCREAM MOMENTS | Sleepover Retro Countdown Show – Episode 108 📼✨
Grab your Ghostface mask and check the caller ID… because in Episode 108 we’re heading back to Woodsboro to battle it out over the ultimate Top 10 Scream countdown. This time, we’re not ranking merch or soundtracks. We’re going straight for the jugular: the most iconic opening scenes, the most nerve-shredding phone calls, the most brutal kills, the best Ghostfaces — and then we rank the entire franchise from bottom to top.
No spoilers for Scream 7. No trailer deep dives. Just pure franchise love and heated debate.
🎬 1️⃣ The Openings That Changed Horror From Drew Barrymore’s 1996 terror-filled kitchen nightmare to the meta-on-meta fake-outs of Scream 4, we debate which opening defines the franchise DNA. Which one still makes your heart race? Which one rewired horror forever?
📞 2️⃣ The Phone Calls You like scary movies? We break down the most unforgettable Ghostface calls — including Randy’s public quad humiliation in Scream 2 and Gale Weathers’ long-awaited showdown in Scream VI. One of these turns into one of the most intense sequences in the entire franchise.
🔪 3️⃣ The Kills Some deaths devastate. Some are triumphant. Some make you cheer. We debate Judy & Wes in Scream 5, and the feral final act that flips the script in a way the franchise had never gone before. Which moment hits hardest?
😈 4️⃣ The Best Ghostface Cold and calculating? Charismatic and manipulative? Completely unhinged? We go head-to-head ranking the most memorable killers behind the mask — and yes, there’s disagreement.
🎥 5️⃣ The Franchise Ranking Is there a bad Scream movie? We don’t think so. But something has to land at the bottom. We assign points, combine our lists, and crown the definitive #1 film in the series. Does the original still reign supreme? Does Scream VI earn its high placement? Where do the “underrated” entries land? You’ll have to listen.
🔮 6️⃣ Scream 7 Predictions With Scream 7 about to drop and us actively avoiding spoilers, we speculate wildly: • Is AI the next evolution of horror in the series? • Are we headed toward a New Nightmare-style meta twist? • Is this truly the final chapter for Sidney Prescott? • Is the franchise about to burn it all down? No leaks. Just theories.
If you love horror franchises, analog nostalgia, deep-cut debates, and passionate ranking chaos, this episode is for you.

The episode offers a snapshot of mid-1980s rental culture, when tapes could remain popular for months, horror franchises were taking shape, teen movies dominated repeat viewings, and New York–set films helped define the cultural mood.
