Hi there! I'm Sahara, a graduate student at the University of Reno, NV. This podcast is to help bridge the gap between those doing interesting (and sometimes weird!) research at the school, and those who are interested in learning more about weird science! We'll also discuss college and grad school, and the things we wish we knew when we started. You'll see a new episode on Thursdays, usually with a guest, where we discuss their super cool research. Ben is a Ph.D. candidate at UNR getting his degree in Ecology and Evolution Conservation. Ben is incredibly knowledgeable about one of my favorite topics, BIRDS. He is talking to us about aging and age-related disease, and how microscopic, parasitic worms could help us understand them. 10 FEB 2022 · Hey team, guess who's back?! So sorry about the hiatus, I had some technical (and physical!) difficulties, but I am back with another episode. This time, we are hanging with a dear friend of mine, Megan Mortimer, who is a long-time graduated dental assistant. She's going to give us the rundown on trade school, the expectations (and stigma!) surrounding it, as well as incredibly useful information for anyone who has experienced orthodontics! 17 DEC 2021 · Today's episode of Thesis Thursdays includes an amazing scientist and lab-sis of mine, Ria Anand. Ria has worked to get her PhD in both Pharmacology and now, Cell Molecular Bio, and she is super interesting and dedicated to her work. For her last project, she looked at the movement of mitochondria in the brain in Parkinson models, and now she's looking at genetics and their effects on fat bodies in fruit flies.
