    BTK (Part Two: Revisited)

1 JUL 2024 · "The doctors tell us as long as he's being able to fantasize what he's done, he might not do it again. But the fantasy may wear off." In the mid-1970s, a serial killer known as the BTK began to make his presence felt throughout Wichita. Sales of alarm systems in the area would skyrocket, as would the region's general sense of paranoia. However, following his correspondence with law enforcement and the media at the end of the decade, the BTK grew silent. Years would pass without any word from the enigmatic killer, who investigators believed continued to lurk, waiting for his time to strike... BTK (Part One: Revisited)

1 JUL 2024 · "How many people do I have to kill before I get my name in the paper or some national attention?" Throughout the mid-1970s, a serial killer began to terrorize the residents of Wichita, Kansas. After disappearing for a couple of years, this offender then committed a series of brazen attacks on young women inside their homes. Afterward, this offender began corresponding with police through the media, beginning a game of cat-and-mouse that would carry on for decades... • The Kauai Serial Killer

1 JUL 2024 · "We have now, since April, three violent crimes, all sexual in nature, and the victims seem to fit the same profile..." Between April and August of 2000, three violent crimes shook the southwestern shores of Kauai. The fourth largest of the Hawaiian islands, this was a region that rarely saw violent crime on this scope. For it to happen three times in such a short amount of time was unheard of. In response, residents began fearing that they would be next. As police struggled to ascertain who this strange attacker was, questions began to be raised about whether or not these three crimes were even related... Eleustinian Mysteries

24 JUN 2024 · "For among the many excellent and indeed divine institutions which your Athens has brought forth and contributed to human life, none, in my opinion, is better than those mysteries..." The Eleusinian Mysteries were ancient Greek rites held annually in Eleusis to honor the goddesses Demeter and Persephone. Spanning over two millennia, these ceremonies included secret rituals and the consumption of kykeon, promising initiates profound spiritual insights into life and death. The exact nature of the Mysteries remains secret due to the vows of silence each initiate made. Scholars believe the rituals might have involved psychoactive substances, although their true origins and method remain unknown. These rites offered a transformative journey, their secrets continuing to intrigue and inspire millennia later... Rickety Ranch

17 JUN 2024 · "The family is living in fear. They are constantly watching their back looking over their shoulder wondering when the next shoe is going to drop." Rickety Ranch, an animal sanctuary in Hollis, New Hampshire, billed itself as a safe space for children of all ages to come together and learn about animals. Having been built slowly over time by co-owners Gary and Diane Bergeron on their 2.6 acre property, the Rickety Ranch accepted all with open arms and tried to promote positivity. But in 2017, a strange extortion campaign started. First came letters. Then came physical acts of vandalism, which soon progressed into something more sinister... • Blake & London Deven

17 JUN 2024 · "How can a child be missing for two years - or even a second?" On 19 January 2024, a 9-1-1 call was received by authorities in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The caller told dispatchers that her adopted son, 17-year-old Blake Deven, had gone missing. Strangely, though, she was unable to identify where she'd last seen him - or when. While police would originally label Blake a runaway, that would change in the months ahead. Two months later, police were again called out to the Deven home on an unrelated matter. From there, however, it became apparent to investigators that something was amiss. Not only had Blake been missing for approximately two years, but they would determine that another family member of his, 27-year-old London Deven, had not been seen since 2019... • D'Lisa Kelley

3 JUN 2024 · "We don't know who committed the crime but we do know that our local law enforcement didn't react the way they should have." On the evening of 7 March 2014, police dispatchers in Dallas, Texas received a call from the grandmother of a 24-year-old woman that had only been missing for a couple of hours, but had gone missing under extremely distressing circumstances. Just hours beforehand, her family had received an unintentional call from her in which it sounded like she was being physically abused. By all indications, she'd been fighting for her life. What they received, however, was a frustrating response that ultimately led to an overhaul in how certain 9-1-1 calls are handled in the state of Texas... • The Lake Oconee Murders

20 MAY 2024 · "We don't know where all the crime scenes were in this case and that's been a big problem." On the afternoon of 3 May 2014, 88-year-old Russell Dermond and his 87-year-old wife Shirley were expected over at a neighbor's home for a Kentucky Derby party. However, the elderly couple never showed up or called to apologize, something that was very unlike them. Hours passed. Then days. Nobody spoke with or saw the Dermonds, who were absent from their usual routines. Both were conspicuously absent not only through the weekend, but early into the next week. Finally, on Tuesday, a pair of neighbors decided to make a house call and check in on the missing pair, who hadn't been seen or heard from in nearly four days... Alice Kyteler

7 APR 2024 · "Petronilla said she had several times at Alice's instigation and once in her presence, consulted demons and received answers." Born into the bustling mercantile life of 13th century Kilkenny, Alice Kyteler was the offspring of a Flemish merchant and his Irish wife. Her early life was one of privilege and learning, a rarity for women in those times. But it was not just her family’s standing that would shape her destiny; it was her cunning, her charm, and her ambition that set the course of her life. Alice Kyteler’s life, marked by prosperity and strategic marriages, took a dark turn in 1324 when she became the focal point of a historic trial for witchcraft. Her wealth and social standing, which had once shielded her, now made her a target for those who sought to make an example of her...
