Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 07 Episode 24 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a bright and sunny Wednesday morning 25 October 2023.
Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent - the Pacific Ocean.
In rugby union: BREAKING NEWS: World Rugby has just announced a new annual men’s XVs competition involving Canada, Fiji, Japan, Samoa, Tonga and USA launching in 2024.
It reaffirms World Rugby’s commitment to increasing global competitiveness on the road to Rugby World Cups in Australia 2027 and USA 2031.
Approved by the World Rugby Council, the rebranded Pacific Nations Cup, which will be played in the southern hemisphere in August and September, featuring two pools of three teams – a northern pool with USA, Canada and Japan plus a Pacific Islands pool with Fiji, Samoa and Tonga hosting matches.
For us coconuts, it’s like putting lipstick on a pig . . . this just reaffirms World Rugby’s ignorance of the emergence and requests of Pacific Islands rugby once again, to play Tier One rugby nations.
In rugby league: Fiji Bati pair Mikaele Ravalawa and Kitione Kautoga have pleaded guilty and both fined a percentage of their match fees, after they were charged with careless high tackles following their win over Cook Islands in PoM in Sunday's Pacific Championships clash.
Meanwhile, Storm centre Justin Olam has been ruled out of Papua New Guinea's Pacific Championships campaign due to an ongoing knee issue.
Olam was a notable absentee when the Kumuls returned to camp in Port Moresby after a week off to prepare for Sunday's Test against Fiji and PNG Head Coach, Justin Holbrook said that Olam would take no part in the tournament.
In Football SportsBiz: Another sign of Serie A’s improving financial health: AC Milan has reported its first Club profits since 2006.
On the heels of a critical set of the league’s new domestic media rights agreements, the Club said it posted a US$6.5Million profit for the year ended 30 June 2023 on Club-record revenue of US$430.5M — up 36% from a year ago.
In football: UEFA Champions League Rd 3 games: Galatasaray 1-1 Bayern Munich and Inter Milan 1-0 RB Salzburg at halftime, plus Man United – FC Copenhagen, Sevilla – Arsenal, Lens - PSV Eindhoven, Union Berlin – Napoli, Sporting Braga - Real Madrid and Benfica - Real Sociedad.
In combat sports: “I would love to have a good body. But, I don’t have any hope of having a good body. I’ve been in a training camp, living like a monk, for the past 12 weeks and I still don’t have a good body.
“But, the one thing I know is this - this isn’t a bodybuilding contest.
“I am an old fashioned kind of guy who can go in there and have a fight, it doesn’t really matter what I look like. It’s about getting the victory. If I had a ten pack and I looked like Adonis and I wasn’t winning, it’s pointless,” the Gypsy King telling it like it is.
And that’s a wrap!
