Jennifer Laude was a wonderful, beautiful, 26 year old transgender woman from the city of Olongapo in the Philippines. To tell this story wouldn't be right without explaining the relationship between the United States and the Philippines. It shapes why this case was handled the way it was. Jennifer and her transgender friend were at a bar. As I address in the upcoming episode, I didn't find this in my research for this episode, they were sex workers. Usually, they don't go to motels or any place where men can find out they are transgender. Transgender sex workers in Olongapo will usually only agree to oral sex, performed in their clients vehicles, and don't allow men to touch them. Jennifer met a United States Marine at the bar. When they go to the motel, things take a dark turn.
