Story Transcript:

Uk: На метушливих вулицях Києва, серед музику й сміх людей, стояв Олександр. Нерви тремтіли в його долонях, коли він оглядався навколо. На спотиканих бруківках подвір'я жовтоватого старого будинку, де був розташований ресторан, чекала Олена. Ресторан «Шинок», класичний український заклад, був вибране місце для їх побачення.
En: On the bustling streets of Kiev, amidst the music and laughter of people, stood Alexander. Nerves trembled in his hands as he looked around. In the uneven courtyard of a yellowed old building, where the restaurant was located, Elena was waiting. The "Shynok" restaurant, a classic Ukrainian establishment, was the chosen place for their meeting.

Uk: Олександр жадав зробити враження. Він провів багато вечорів, досліджуючи старомодні вислови, які могли б зачарувати Oлену. Зусилля, справді, були значними.
En: Alexander wanted to make an impression. He had spent many evenings studying old-fashioned phrases that could enchant Elena. His efforts were indeed significant.

Uk: Він підійшов до неї, усіхуючись від хвилювання. "Вечір добрий, Olena, вийшло, що я знайшов добу таку, що ластівка гнізда збудувала на небі."
En: He approached her, trembling with excitement. "Good evening, Olena, it turns out I found a day when a swallow built a nest in the sky."

Uk: У його голосі лунало збентеження. Вона нахилила голову на бік, дивлячись на нього з'ясовуючим поглядом. Щось тут не так, побачилося у неї в очах.
En: His voice sounded troubled. She tilted her head, looking at him with a quizzical gaze. Something was off, it seemed in her eyes.

Uk: Що ти маєш на увазі? – запитала вона, намагаючись зрозуміти, що він мав на увазі цим висловом.
En: "What do you mean?" she asked, trying to understand what he meant by that expression.

Uk: Олександро проковтнув. Гірко пожалів, що не взяв попередній досвід до уваги. Він похитав головою, показуючи прикрощі, "Моя помилка, Olena. Я хотів сказати, що ти прекрасна, дуже прекрасна."
En: Alexander swallowed. He bitterly regretted not taking previous experience into account. He shook his head, showing remorse. "My mistake, Olena. I meant to say that you are beautiful, very beautiful."

Uk: Ніяка репліка не могла б зацікавити Olena більше, ніж реакція Олександра. Вона розсміялася. "Вислови здатні викликати непорозуміння, Олександре!" вона сказала, продовжуючи сміятися.
En: No reply could have interested Olena more than Alexander's reaction. She laughed. "Expressions can cause misunderstandings, Alexander!" she said, continuing to laugh.

Uk: На мить Олександр почув себе враженим, але потім приєднався до неї. Вони сміялись разом, огортаючись в кобзарські мелодії та відчуттів.
En: For a moment, Alexander felt impressed, but then he joined her. They laughed together, enveloped in the melodies and feelings of the kobzar.

Uk: Так почалася їхні побачення. Змішані старі українські фрази, конфуз і сміх стали початком цієї рум'янцевої ночі. І хоча Олександр був витривалий у своїх уподобаннях до старовинних висловів, він розумів, що вони могли викликати непорозуміння. Але це було незначним, так як спілкування з Оленою було таким живим і духовним, незалежно від непорозумінь. Тому їхній вечір був прекрасним.
En: And so their dates began. Mixed with old Ukrainian phrases, confusion and laughter became the start of this blushful night. And although Alexander was persistent in his preferences for antiquated expressions, he understood that they could cause misunderstandings. But that was insignificant because the communication with Elena was so lively and spiritual, regardless of misunderstandings. Thus, their evening was beautiful.
