The metal sample analyzed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is a magnesium alloy containing zinc, bismuth, and other elements.

The metal fragment is believed to be part of an unidentified anomalous phenomenon (UAP) that fell to Earth in the late 1940s, associated with the famous Roswell incident. While the Roswell UAP may have been just a U.S. Air Force balloon, many still speculate that extraterrestrials visited Earth. The fragment was later handed over to To The Stars, a UFO research organization. In 2019, a spokesperson told the New York Times that To The Stars had "exotic materials from UFOs" which they believed originated from the Roswell event. If proven to be part of extraterrestrial technology, this sample could rewrite history.
