A fairly recent change in federal law has marked the beginning of a new era for young people who need care when their parents are unable to provide it. In this episode of Upstate Issues, Colleen Vogel, Senior Director of Foster Care, Northern Rivers talks about the Family First Prevention Services Act which makes it easier for “kin” to provide foster care. She points out that even people who are not related to a minor can provide foster care. Vogel talks about some of the legal, financial and emotional issues that are involved becoming a foster parent.
