Story Transcript:

Nl: In het hart van ons land, ligt de stad Amsterdam, vol met zijn grachten en fietsen. Hier woont een jongen, Daan. Aardig is Daan, en ook erg stoer. Hij fietst altijd. Door de straten, over de bruggen, naast de grachten. Fietsen, dat doet Daan als de beste.
En: In the heart of our country, lies the city of Amsterdam, full of its canals and bicycles. Here lives a boy, Daan. Kind is Daan, and also very brave. He always rides his bike. Through the streets, over the bridges, next to the canals. Riding a bike, that's what Daan does best.

Nl: Op een dag, vol met zon, was Daan aan het fietsen. Met hem, waren er ook veel toeristen. Zij keken naar Daan, die zo snel fietste. Daan wilde laten zien, hoe goed hij was. Hij fietste sneller, hij fietste stoerder. Kijk naar mij, dacht Daan.
En: One day, full of sun, Daan was riding his bike. With him, there were also many tourists. They watched Daan, who rode so fast. Daan wanted to show how good he was. He rode faster, he rode braver. Look at me, Daan thought.

Nl: Maar toen, o jee, het ging mis. Daan wilde te veel. Te snel ging Daan, te dicht bij de gracht. Plons! Daar ging Daan, de gracht in. Nat was Daan, en ook een beetje boos. De toeristen, die lachten. Daan schaamde zich.
En: But then, oh dear, it went wrong. Daan wanted too much. Too fast Daan went, too close to the canal. Splash! There went Daan, into the canal. Daan was wet, and a little bit mad too. The tourists, they laughed. Daan felt ashamed.

Nl: Maar Daan, hij was ook slim. Hij dacht na. "Ik zit nu wel in de gracht, maar ik kan iets doen." Zei hij. Hij lachte naar de toeristen. "Dit was een grap!" riep hij, "een show voor jullie!". De toeristen, die begonnen te klappen. Zij vonden het leuk, zij lachten niet meer om Daan.
En: But Daan, he was also smart. He thought. "I may be in the canal now, but I can do something." He said. He smiled at the tourists. "This was a joke!" he shouted, "a show for all of you!" The tourists, they started clapping. They liked it, they no longer laughed at Daan.

Nl: Uit het water kwam Daan, met een lach op zijn gezicht. De toeristen, die gaven hem een hand. Ze zeiden: "Goed gedaan, Daan!". Daan was blij, maar ook een beetje moe.
En: Out of the water came Daan, with a smile on his face. The tourists, they shook his hand. They said, "Well done, Daan!". Daan was happy, but also a little tired.

Nl: Die dag, ging Daan naar huis. Niet met de fiets, maar lopend. Hij was nat, hij was moe. Maar hij was ook blij. Blij, omdat hij een goede dag had gehad. Een dag vol met fietsen, een dag vol met lachen.
En: That day, Daan went home. Not on his bike, but walking. He was wet, he was tired. But he was also happy. Happy, because he had a good day. A day full of riding his bike, a day full of laughter.

Nl: Dus daar in Amsterdam, leerde Daan een les. Soms, als dingen niet gaan zoals je wilt, kun je ze toch goed maken. Soms, is een lach het beste. En soms, is het beter om niet te snel te fietsen. Vooral, als je naast een gracht bent.
En: So there in Amsterdam, Daan learned a lesson. Sometimes, when things don't go as you want them to, you can still make them right. Sometimes, a smile is the best thing. And sometimes, it's better not to ride too fast. Especially, when you're next to a canal.
