Fr: La chaleur de l'été parisien pèse lourd sur mes épaules.
En: The heat of the Parisian summer weighs heavily on my shoulders.

Fr: Le soleil brille fort ce jour-là, mais je sens un froid glacial dans mon cœur.
En: The sun shines brightly that day, but I feel an icy coldness in my heart.

Fr: À travers la vitre du commissariat, je vois la ville en pleine agitation.
En: Through the window of the police station, I see the city in full hustle and bustle.

Fr: La fête nationale approche.
En: The national holiday is approaching.

Fr: Paris prépare les feux d'artifice et les célébrations de la Bastille.
En: Paris is preparing fireworks and Bastille Day celebrations.

Fr: Pourtant, je me tiens ici, inquiet pour ma fille Sophie.
En: Yet here I stand, worried about my daughter Sophie.

Fr: Je m'approche du comptoir avec une photo de ma fille à la main.
En: I approach the counter with a photo of my daughter in hand.

Fr: Le policier, un homme avec des lunettes et une moustache imposante, me regarde avec des yeux fatigués.
En: The policeman, a man with glasses and an imposing mustache, looks at me with tired eyes.

Fr: "Monsieur, comment pouvons-nous vous aider ?" demande-t-il.
En: "Sir, how can we help you?" he asks.

Fr: Je prends une grande inspiration.
En: I take a deep breath.

Fr: "Ma fille, Sophie, a disparu. Elle a quinze ans. Elle est partie hier et n'est pas rentrée," dis-je, la voix tremblante.
En: "My daughter, Sophie, is missing. She's fifteen. She left yesterday and hasn’t come back," I say, my voice trembling.

Fr: Le policier prend la photo.
En: The policeman takes the photo.

Fr: "Vous avez parlé avec ses amis ?" demande-t-il.
En: "Have you spoken with her friends?" he asks.

Fr: "Non, je voulais d'abord faire un rapport ici," dis-je. Il hoche la tête et commence à écrire des notes.
En: "No, I wanted to file a report here first," I reply. He nods and starts writing notes.

Fr: Il me pose des questions sur Sophie.
En: He asks me questions about Sophie.

Fr: Nos récentes disputes reviennent dans ma tête.
En: Our recent arguments play back in my head.

Fr: Nous nous disputions souvent sur ses fréquentations et ses choix de vie.
En: We often argued about her friends and life choices.

Fr: J'ai peur que mes paroles l'aient poussée à fuir.
En: I'm afraid my words might have driven her away.

Fr: Après avoir complété le rapport, je décide de commencer ma propre enquête.
En: After filing the report, I decide to start my own investigation.

Fr: Je retrace les pas de Sophie.
En: I retrace Sophie’s steps.

Fr: Je sais qu'elle aime un petit café près de la Seine.

Fr: Après une courte marche, je m'y trouve.
En: After a short walk, I find myself there.

Fr: Le propriétaire, un homme gentil nommé Jacques, me reconnaît tout de suite.
En: The owner, a kind man named Jacques, recognizes me immediately.

Fr: "Ah, Luc. Sophie vient souvent ici. Elle était là avant-hier," dit-il.
En: "Ah, Luc. Sophie comes here often. She was here the day before yesterday," he says.

Fr: J'insiste.
En: I press on.

Fr: "Avez-vous remarqué quelque chose d’inhabituel ? A-t-elle parlé de quelque chose ?"
En: "Did you notice anything unusual? Did she talk about something?"

Fr: "Oui, elle était avec des amis, ils parlaient d'une fête. Elle semblait préoccupée," répond-il.
En: "Yes, she was with friends, talking about a party. She seemed worried," he replies.

Fr: Un indice ! Une fête.
En: A clue! A party.

Fr: Sophie aime la musique.
En: Sophie loves music.

Fr: Je me souviens alors d'un club où elle va parfois.
En: I then remember a club she sometimes goes to.

Fr: Je m'y rends sans attendre.
En: I head there without delay.

Fr: Là-bas, je parle à plusieurs jeunes. Finalement, une jeune fille, Amélie, se souvient de l'avoir vue.
En: At the club, I speak to several young people. Finally, a young girl, Amélie, remembers seeing her.

Fr: "Sophie était triste. Elle a dit qu'elle en avait marre de tout. Mais elle n'a rien dit de précis," dit Amélie.
En: "Sophie was sad. She said she was fed up with everything. But she didn't say anything specific," says Amélie.

Fr: Avec ces informations, je continue ma recherche.

Fr: Mes pas me mènent à un parc où Sophie et moi allions souvent.

Fr: "Papa… je ne savais pas où aller," dit-elle doucement.

Fr: Je me lève et la prends dans mes bras.

Fr: "Je suis désolé, Sophie. J'aurais dû te comprendre," dis-je, les larmes aux yeux.

Fr: Elle pleure aussi.

Fr: "Je voulais juste que tu m'écoutes," répond-elle.
En: "I just wanted you to listen to me," she replies.

Fr: À ce moment, nous réalisons tous les deux combien nous tenons l'un à l'autre.
En: At that moment, we both realize how much we mean to each other.

Fr: La fête de la Bastille approche et nous retournons à la maison ensemble, décidés à mieux nous comprendre.
