show moreOn June 17, 2023 around 5:01 PM, Patrolwoman Madison Taylor with the Sea Bright Police Department responded to Donovan’s Reef on a report of a heavily intoxicated male in need of medical attention. She walked through the bar and onto the beach before she made contact with the intoxicated male. First responders were also on scene to render aid and transport him to the hospital. The intoxicated male was walked through the beach back to the front entrance and loaded onto a stretcher.
Around this time, a 27-year-old man who was with him asked Patrolwoman Taylor what was going to happen to him. Patrolwoman Taylor told him that he would be transported to Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. The man, later identified as Elijah, offered to take responsibility for the intoxicated male, but he was told that he could not do that. Around this time, he started acting belligerent and a physical altercation ensued between him and the first responders. Based on the altercation, Patrolwoman Taylor placed Elijah under arrest.
After he was placed under arrest, he was transported by Patrolwoman Taylor back to the Sea Bright Police Department. At police headquarters, the officers worked on processing him and completing the paperwork related to this arrest. After they were finished with their paperwork, Elijah was released pending his court appearance. He was issued a summons for a disorderly persons offense, but Patrolwoman Taylor declined to cite him for assaulting a law enforcement officer.
