1Kings 19.9-13 and Acts 19.28-41
Pray and Listen
Last week the message was "Pray and Do!"
Elijah was a man of action. A doer. One who by the grace of God just defeated the prophets of Baal! He proved to the people that the LORD is God! He went from the highest of high to the lowest of low. Jezebel sent word that she was out to get him.
Paul was a man of action. A doer. He preached to the poor and unknown and the rich and famous. It did not matter to Paul because he was not easily intimidated. He had been beaten, stoned, and locked up. But he kept preaching.
Wouldn't it be great if we could call time out, go to our private room or space, fall on our knees, and pray to the LORD for help, for guidance, for deliverance? Well, when we physically cannot go there, we must spiritually find that quiet space.
The more time we spend praying and listening to the LORD during our quiet moments, the better we will be able to hear His voice during the hurricane winds of temptation, the earthquake trembling of peer pressure, the great burning fire of fear, and other troubling situations.
When they arise, we will know to block out the noise, quiet ourselves, pray, and listen for God's voice that will guide us and lead us to do the right thing.
Amen. Invitation.
