show moreIf David is the Psalmist, I can understand why he uses this terminology. He had many enemies who rose up against him, but he depended on the Rock of his salvation. And because God is who He is, David exhorts the people to worship with a spirit of thanksgiving.
I.We ought to be thankful because we serve the Almighty God! (v3)
II.We ought to be thankful because God is the Creator of all things. (vv4-5)
III.We ought to be thankful because God created us. (v6)
IV.We ought to be thankful because we belong to God. (v7)
God had delivered the Israelites from Egyptian bondage. He had performed miracle after miracle including the Angel of death passing over the Israelites and the parting of the Red Sea. But they continued to complain. Their attitude of ingratitude led to their disobedience. No matter how the LORD blessed them, it was neither enough nor good enough for them. As a result, they lost out on their blessings. They wandered for 40 years in the desert. The next generation inherited the Promised Land.
We all have reasons to be thankful. Take inventory. Count your blessings. You may be surprised by what you discover. God has been good to us. These are at least four reasons for us to be thankful, for the LORD is the Rock of our salvation. Amen.
