“Behind the Mitten” is Michigan’s premiere travel radio show and Podcast, and since 2015 it has published more than 500 episodes. It is co-hosted by veteran journalist John Gonzalez and longtime chef & beer expert Amy Sherman. The show has been recognized by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters as Best in Category.

It's never too early to think Spring! This week we talk about several Michigan butterfly exhibitions, and we celebrate of the 50th anniversary of Mawby Vineyards & Winery.

Season 5, Episode 8:

• This week we visit the uber popular Fred & Dorothy Fichter Butterflies are Blooming exhibit at Frederick Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids. VP of Horticulture Steve LaWarre joins us to share what is new and exciting this year at the Gardens.
• Then we head to Benton Harbor and visit with the always fun Nate Fuller from Sarett Nature Center. Their butterfly exhibit will open outdoors at the end of May, but in the meantime you can head to the center to learn about maple sugaring over the next few weeks.
• Elly Maxwell, the entomologist at Dow Gardens in Midland stops by to share all the up close ways you can experience the butterflies there starting March 3. Learn more at dowgardens.org/events/butterflies.
• To close the show, we catch up with Michael Laing of Mawby Vineyards and Winery in Suttons Bay. Mawby is celebrating their 50th anniversary of creating award winning, Michigan-made wines in 2023. Lang shares some of their upcoming events, and what this milestone means for the vineyard.
