Lt: Vieną šaltą vakarą Aubaro taverne šurmuliuota būta.
En: One cold evening, there was a lively atmosphere in Aubar's tavern.

Lt: Viduje žmonės šildėsi prieš ugnį, o jų balsai liejosi kaip miško upė.
En: Inside, people were warming themselves by the fire, and their voices flowed like a forest stream.

Lt: Tarp jų sėdėjo ir Gytis, jaunas vyras su akimis kaip rudeninis dangus.
En: Among them sat Gytis, a young man with eyes as deep as the autumn sky.

Lt: Tos pačios vakaro valandos metu į taverną įžengė ir Rūta.
En: At the same hour, Rūta entered the tavern.

Lt: Ji buvo vietinių gėrio puoselėtoja, visada su šypsena, tarsi pavasariui pranešanti žydėjimo pradžią.
En: She was a local do-gooder, always smiling, as if heralding the beginning of spring.
