Pedro Alonso López, infamously known as "The Monster of the Andes," is a notorious Colombian serial killer whose criminal activities sent shockwaves across South America in the latter part of the 20th century. His crimes, primarily committed between 1969 and 1980, targeted young girls and women, making him one of the most prolific serial killers in history.

He is considered by many to be one of the world's most prolific serial killers and rapists. To this day, he is presumed to be at large.


Criminal Activities

López's crimes spanned across Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. He preyed mainly on young women and girls, often luring them under false pretenses. His method of operation typically involved abduction, rape, and then murder. The brutality and sheer number of these crimes were unprecedented in the region.

In 1980, López's reign of terror was brought to a halt when he was caught and arrested in Ecuador. During his incarceration, he confessed to killing more than 300 victims, although the official number of confirmed murders stands at 110. The majority of his victims were young indigenous girls, which, tragically, meant that many of these cases went unnoticed for a long time due to societal indifference towards these marginalized communities.
