Story Transcript:

Af: Op 'n sonskyn Saterdagoggend staan Jan vol verwagting by die ingang van Die Boeremark, 'n plek waar die lug altyd swaar is van die geur van vars baksel en soet vrugte.
En: On a sunny Saturday morning, Jan eagerly waits at the entrance of Die Boeremark, a place where the air is always heavy with the smell of fresh baked goods and sweet fruits.

Af: Jan, met sy hoed effens skeef op sy kop, is op 'n missie: hy moet 'n hoender koop vir die potjie wat hy en sy vriendin, Anna, beplan het vir daardie aand.
En: With his hat slightly askew, Jan is on a mission: he needs to buy a chicken for the stew he and his girlfriend, Anna, have planned for that evening.

Af: "Dit gaan die beste potjie ooit wees!" dink Jan by homself terwyl hy verby die stalletjies stap.
En: "This is going to be the best stew ever!" Jan thinks to himself as he walks past the stalls.

En: He sees a large bird with a long neck and thinks it's a strange but impressive chicken.

Af: Met geen tweede gedagte nie, wys hy na die voël en sê: "Een hoender, asseblief!"
En: Without a second thought, he points to the bird and says, "One chicken, please!"

Af: Die markverkoper, wat stry om nie hardop te lag nie, knik en help Jan om die reuse voël, wat eintlik 'n volstruis is, in 'n groot hok te kry.
En: The market vendor, struggling not to laugh out loud, nods and helps Jan get the huge bird, which is actually an ostrich, into a large coop.

En: Jan tries to keep the coop still, but every kick from the ostrich makes the coop sway back and forth.

En: The bus arrives, and Jan struggles to get his "chicken" on board.

Af: Die busbestuurder kyk na Jan, dan na die voël, en skud sy kop.
En: The bus driver looks at Jan, then at the bird, and shakes his head.

En: "You can't bring that thing on here!" he says.

Af: Na 'n lang geskarrel, en met die hulp van 'n paar nuuskierige passasiers, slaag Jan daarin om die hok met die volstruis op die bus te manouvreer.
En: After much struggle, and with the help of a few curious passengers, Jan manages to maneuver the coop with the ostrich onto the bus.

Af: Die bus se reis vervolg, maar die volstruis se teenwoordigheid sorg vir 'n nagmerrie van geveerde fladder en pluime wat rondwarrel.
En: The bus journey continues, but the ostrich's presence leads to a nightmare of flapping feathers and fluttering around.

Af: Anna, wat by die huis wag, wonder waar Jan bly.
