This week we are talking to Kyle King about rebuilding nations after war. In today’s world we are not short of human caused disasters, war, terrorist attacks, and more. Kyle is using the skills of emergency management to help rebuild these nations.

Mr. King is from the United States and has spent over 25 years in the Fire and Emergency Services and international crisis management field. Starting his career in the US Marine Corps, Mr. King then deployed as a civilian in support of US Army Europe operations in Bosnia and tasked with establishing the first DoD Emergency Services certification program for non-US personnel. At the rank of Assistant Chief of Operations and Training, Mr. King transitioned to Afghanistan in 2007 where he supported ongoing coalition operations in prevention and force protection, with an assignment in Bagram and Kabul.In 2009, Mr. King was selected as the “first of its kind” Civil Protection/Crisis Response Advisor hired by NATO to support ongoing security sector reform in Kosovo. Mr. King developed national response capabilities, national exercises, and performance metrics directly contributing to NATO’s declaration of Full Operational Capacity for the Kosovo Security Force in 2013. Appointed as the Policy and Plans Chief, a senior civilian post in the organization, Mr. King also served as the Deputy Chief of Staff. From 2013 to 2016 Mr. King designed, developed, and directed NATO’s new effort in capacity building, education, and training in Kosovo. In 2017, Mr. King formed Capacity Building International in order to support organizations and partners with the implementation of international development programs. Mr. King is certified as a Chief Fire Officer within the US Department of Defense, with a Masters of Arts in Diplomacy from Norwich University and a Bachelor’s of Science in Business/Public Administration. Mr. King has received numerous awards and recognitions, most recently the NATO Meritorious Service Medal for Civilian Staff for his work in building NATO’s capacity building and education platform for Kosovo.
