A fake 911 call. A tree branch placed across a highway ramp. A property rigged with electronic tripwires and sniper positions. Police officers respond to what seems like routine calls, only to discover they were the target all along.

In October 2022, Bristol, Connecticut police responded to a domestic disturbance call. Nicholas Brutcher had lured them there after a traffic stop. He hid in bushes wearing camouflage and opened fire with an AR-15, killing Lieutenant Dustin DeMonte and Sergeant Alex Hamzy [citation:9]. In Wieambilla, Australia, a doomsday prepper trio set up cameras and electronic tripwires around their property. When four officers arrived for a welfare check, the killers had time to put on camouflage, grab high-powered rifles, and assume sniper positions. Two constables were executed at close range [citation:5][citation:7]. In Bardstown, Kentucky, someone placed a pile of branches across Officer Jason Ellis's route home. When he stopped to move them, a hidden shooter fired a shotgun into his back [citation:8]. The killer has never been found. Turn down the lights, put on your headphones, and press play because the most dangerous calls are the ones where the trap is waiting before you arrive.
