Issue 16: April 2023
Our first piece, from producer Sara Cooper, takes us on an audio tour of the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron, or DESY. As one of the world's leading facilities for particle acceleration, researchers from more than 30 countries come to DESY to better understand physics, radiation, molecular biology and much more.
Our second piece comes from Hypertourismos, a podcast by the team at Europod for Sphera. Santorini is one of the world’s most popular and Instagrammable tourist destinations - but the influx of visitors to the small island has had dire consequences. Activists, politicians and locals are sounding the alarm on the disaster created with the progressive loss of natural land because of new hotels and resorts (some that stand empty) and the pollution of its waters through single use plastics and more. To listen to the rest of the series, head over to https://www.europod.eu/podcast/hypertourismos/.
Our theme music is from Lucas Carey, with audio from Epidemic Sound. Cover art by Sian Amber Fletcher.
